Beneath the city of Waterdeep, a beholder crime lord keeps tabs on everyone and everything—or so the beholder believes. Known as Xanathar, the leader of Xanathar’s Thieves’ Guild believes it can gather information on everything in the multiverse.
With an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, a taste for gold, and a general disdain for most living things, it is surprising to learn that Xanathar’s most prized possession is its goldfish, Sylgar.
Originally known only as The Eye, the Xanathar we know arrived in Waterdeep’s subterranean city Skullport to find fortune and profit. Upon learning of the mysterious Xanathar’s Thieves’ Guild and its beholder leader, The Eye decided to take control, taking the position and name of the original Xanathar.
Xanathars never venture much out of their lair, preferring to send out members when necessary to do their dirty work. It could also have much to do with how many beholders have acquired the title through killing the previous boss. No one knows how many beholders have taken Xanathar’s mantle, only that there have been quite a few.
